Lunar New Year Celebration cum Mother Tongue Language Fortnight 2026
In 2026, our school proudly celebrated the Lunar New Year Celebration cum Mother Tongue Language Fortnight, a vibrant event that brought together culture, language, and community. Aligned with our school's mission of "Growing Minds, Glowing Hearts" and our commitment to nurturing Future-Ready Canberrans, this programme provided students with an authentic and immersive platform to appreciate, experience, and actively use their Mother Tongue in meaningful cultural contexts.
Mother Tongue Language Fortnight
During the fortnight, students participated in engaging activities designed to spark joy in learning and strengthen cultural pride. These experiences embodied our school motto of "Challenge, Conquer & Contribute" as students challenged themselves to try new activities, conquered language barriers, and contributed to our vibrant school community.
Students explored traditional art forms including Chinese calligraphy, fan painting, lantern making, and festive crafts at Cultural Booths, whilst enjoying interactive games such as Chinese yoyo, iron-hoop rolling, pitch-the-pot, and spinning top. Chinese Language Games including puzzles, charades, and word challenges strengthened language proficiency whilst making learning enjoyable. Booths introducing traditional Chinese medicine knowledge and Chinese etiquette helped students understand cultural practices in daily life.
The fortnight also featured exciting in-house competitions: Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition, Chinese Character Typing Competition, Picture Description Competition, Passage Recital Competition, and the Lunar New Year Comic Drawing Activity.
Lunar New Year Celebration
The festivities culminated on 13 February when the school community came together to usher in the Lunar New Year with joy and enthusiasm. Students participated in the Lunar New Year Classroom Decoration Competition, transforming spaces with vibrant festive ornaments and creative displays.
The celebration concert featured outstanding performances by our Performing Arts CCAs: Concert Band, Guzheng Ensemble, Dance Club, Guitar Ensemble, and Choir. External performances brought traditional culture to life, including festive drums and stilt walking, the captivating Sichuan Opera mask-changing act, and an energetic Lion Dance performance. The God of Fortune's special appearance brought blessings and well wishes to all, whilst our in-house Lunar New Year MTV showcased student and staff creativity.
Through these festive performances, interactive cultural activities, and friendly competitions, students experienced the richness of Chinese culture whilst strengthening unity across the school. This celebration exemplified our commitment to growing minds through cultural learning and glowing hearts through community connection.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all Parent Support Group members for their invaluable support and contributions, making this celebration a resounding success in nurturing confident, compassionate, and culturally grounded Future-Ready Canberrans.
